In 1983 the first 4th Step Writing Group met in a private home. Back then we didn't know what we were. We had no name. We began as men and women from 12-Step anonymous programs who had begun to share what we had found to be a precious gift. We had been given a clear and effective passage through one of the most difficult steps in our 12-Step process, that of writing a complete and a thorough inventory of our life. We had been given an understandable way to be thorough in our efforts, something we had no idea how to do when we first contemplated the 4th Step. This path was thorough. It was clear and effective. We had found successful recovery. We found a freedom in our life and we wanted to pass it on.
